Therapeutic and Hemodynamic Effects of Cilostazol (Pletaal) in Chronic Obstrutive Arterial Diseases

Abstract
Fourteen patients with thromboangiitis obliterans (Buerger¢¥s disease) and six patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans who were not candidate for reconstructive arterial surgery were treated by cilostazol (pletaal), a platelet affregation inhibitor with a vasodilating action, orally in daily doses of 200mg for 8 consecutive weeks at department of surgery, Chonnam National University Hospital from May- 1991 to December 1991.
The results were as follows.
1) The assessment of global improvement of cilostazol on rest pain in 20 patients was evaluated as markedly improved and improved in 11 patients (55%), markedly improved. improved and slightly improved in 17 patients (85%).
2) 5 ulcers of 7 patients (71.5%) were improved but 4 gangrene of 9 patients (44.4%) were improved.
But there was no evidence of improvement of Doppler waveforms in 6 patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans.
4) The adverse effect of cilostazol treatment was headache in 1 patient (5%).
